Perak Shotokan Tournament Results

Due to various unforeseen circumstances, only 4 Seibukan members made it to Perak on that day, Azlimmi Sensei, Muhd Khaleed, Nuqman Haziq and our guest from UK, Scott Hextall.
First to perform was Scott who did Heian Nidan in the quarter finals of the 7-8 years old kata event. Next was Azlimmi Sensei in the men’s open kata. He performed the little known kata Wankan, but was knocked out by a fellow competitor Will Kuans from Shotokan Australia who performed a commendable Kanku-Dai. Nuqman Haziq was up next in the boy’s 7-8 years old kumite event. Probably wanting to avenge his defeat in the recent Setiawangsa tournament, he was very excited and made several critical error giving his opponent opportunities to score against him. Nonetheless the fighting spirit he showed on the day wad admirable and one of the judges commented to Azlimmi Sensei that with his direct attack approach, and proper guidance and training, he would make a good full contact fighter one day. Last up was Muhd Khaleed, who competed in the Boy’s 9-10 years old Kumite event. His first opponent from Budokan Malaysia was an even match for him, both neither getting nor scoring any points during the 2 minute match, both very good with their guards, but lacking in their attacking strategy. The match went on to extra time, in which Khaleed scored the necessary 1 point to win in sudden death. Khaleed was ecstatic and could not believe he won, and kept asking the rest of us whether it was true. His next opponent was Hafizuddin from Goju-Ryu. Hafizuddin, a far experienced exponent compared to first timer Khaleed, proved that experience will win out against sheer luck, scoring with 2 beautiful mawashi-geri to Khaleed’s head. Even then Khaleed fought back with bravado.
Though this outing was not as succesful as the previous one, team coach Azlimmi Sensei expressed satisfaction that all team members gave their all. OSSKAMelaka would like to thank En. Zulfikar Zikri, Tg. Rafidah & Dr. Airil Razlan for their support and assistance throughout the event.
